10-year-old Boy Shot While Attempting To Save His Mother From A Murder-Suicide

(NationalUSNews.com) — In a shocking murder-suicide in Sheffield, Alabama, a 10-year-old boy was shot twice in a heroic attempt to save his mother. Thirty-eight-year-old Ashley Lynn McClung was arguing with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Adam Christopher Narmore, when he attacked her. Her son, Cayson McClung, was shot in the face and the arm with the shotgun that Narmore also used on Ashley McClung and then on himself.

Cayson managed to make it across the hall in an effort to get help from a neighbor, despite his injuries. Police arriving on the scene gave the boy first aid, including using a tourniquet to slow the bleeding. Cayson was rushed to a local hospital and then sent on to U.A.B. Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Ashley McClung and Narmore were known to have a difficult relationship, as she had already filed a complaint against him in August, accusing him of hitting and slapping her. Narmore denied this ever happened when he was arrested. His bench trial was supposed to take place on December 4th. Narmore had entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of third-degree domestic violence. His release had not included any prohibition from contacting or seeing Ashley McClung. At this time, it is unknown if Narmore was invited to the McClung home or if he had just shown up. The local police are continuing the investigation of the incident and what led up to it.

A GoFundMe has been started to help pay for the surgeries that Cayson will require, as well as funeral costs for Ashley McClung and other expenses. New Bethel Elementary School Principal Nathan Fuller says that Cayson is a great kid and a “courageous and brave young man”. The Sheffield Fire Department stopped by Cayson’s hospital room to comfort him and praise him for his bravery. A picture from that visit shows him with his arm in a cast, and injuries to his face are still visible. GoFundMe describes Ashley McClung as a “kind, genuine, and sincere friend” who “loved her children more than anything in the world.”
