(NationalUSNews.com) — Baseball and football legend Deion Sanders, current coach of the University of Colorado Buffaloes, is asking for compassion over vengeance in the case of four high school students who stole thousands of dollars’ worth of valuables from the locker room while the team was in Southern California playing in the Rose Bowl on October 28th.
The Pasadena Police have identified the suspects as prospective UCLA recruits who are enrolled at Beaumont High School in Beaumont, California. Pasadena PD says that the investigation is ongoing, but some of the stolen property has been recovered and returned. It’s believed that at least five players were victimized by the theft.
Sanders told reporters that he doesn’t believe a “stupid, dumb, idiotic mistake” committed as a teenager should cause the teens to lose opportunities to improve their lives. He conceded that they should be made to atone for their transgressions and suggested community service. He added a call to uplift the teens and pray that they get another chance. The Beaumont Unified School District released a statement expressing disappointment in the students’ actions and saying that although the theft was not committed during any school-sponsored event, the school will be cooperating fully with the police investigation.
Sanders is well known for his leadership skills and his positive attitude. A famous quote by him is “If you look good, you feel good, If you feel good, you play good, If you play good, they pay good.” Sports commentators have noted his calm demeanor while coaching and his ability to make meaningful connections with his players. Sanders is also the only athlete to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. Some football fans consider him to be the greatest NFL cornerback of all time. He is often referred to as Coach Prime, based on the nickname “Prime Time,” which he was commonly referred to during his extensive time on the field during high school, college, and when he played in the NFL.
