(NationalUSNews.com) — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to make a huge announcement sometime in the next few days, that being his attempt at running for US President. Many have suspected that DeSantis would be running for the chief executive position for some time, given how he’s been visiting key election states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. DeSantis would be the fifth Republican to join the GOP primaries should he run, and would be facing off against other candidates such as Donald Trump and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson. Whether or not DeSantis will actually run for higher office remains unknown, but it seems extremely likely that he’ll announce his intention to run for president sometime extremely soon. It’s even been reported that DeSantis will host his launch event in his hometown of Dunedin, Florida.
DeSantis recently made headlines by allegedly telling potential donors that he, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden are the only serious candidates for the 2024 Presidential Election. This sentiment has been echoed by many other politicians and citizens alike, with many believing the election will come down to one of these three candidates. Joe Biden is a given, as he’s already announced his intention to run again and it’d be unlikely for another Democrat to challenge him and win any primaries. It appears as though the Republican nomination will come down between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, a possibility that could go either way. Donald Trump is still wildly popular with conservative voters, but his popularity has been dropping in recent memory due to his ongoing legal scandals. DeSantis is also popular, but has traditionally polled lower than Trump in the past.
DeSantis seemingly has support within other GOP presidential contenders, such as Nikki Haley. Haley told The Hill in an interview that “we’ve been waiting” in regards to DeSantis’ potential presidential bid. DeSantis’ announcement could come any day now, but many outlets are reporting that he’ll be making his formal announcement on May 24th or May 25th. Whether or not DeSantis will make it into office is unclear, but it is clear that many support the up and coming Republican Governor.
