Trump Campaign Allegedly Left Birdcage, Bird Food Outside Nikki Haley’s Hotel Room

( — The former governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, is running for president, and like the rest of the candidates for the 2024 election, she is spending her days campaigning. On October 1, she posted a picture on X (Twitter) of a birdcage and bird food left outside her hotel room with a note claiming it was from the Trump campaign. While there has been no formal admission from the Trump campaign taking credit for the prank, Marc Caputo from the online publication The Messenger claims to have been texted a photo of the birdcage by a member of the Trump camp and has since challenged the idea that he may have fallen for a hoax.

Former President Donald Trump has long been noted for giving people mocking nicknames. Some of his more frequent ones include Sleepy Joe for President Joe Biden, Ron DeSanctimonious for Governor Ron DeSantis, and Pocahontas for Vice Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, Elizabeth Warren. Following the 2nd GOP Presidential Debate on September 27, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to complain about Nikki Haley’s disloyalty, referring to her as Nikki “Birdbrain” Haley.

Trump did not participate in the GOP presidential debates, believing that they should be ended altogether. Haley, for her part, seems to be taking the nickname and the prank gift in stride. She has been more and more critical of Donald Trump and believes the attacks by him and his supporters indicate that she is a growing threat to his re-election. A new poll out of the Saint Anselm College Survey Center at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics places Haley in 2nd place behind Trump with a 30-point lead over the next highest challenger.

With the presidential primary elections looming, it’s expected that inter-party competition will continue to be contentious. Previous primaries have dissolved and forged political alliances. While there is an element of spectator sport in elections, the issues are serious and the stakes are high. Voters’ efforts to decide who to support are affected by everything candidates say or do. While some people enjoy the spectacle, many more are left wishing for something a little more dignified.
