Trump Poll Reveals 70% Of People Think Indictment Is Political

(NationalUSNews.com) — According to a poll conducted by CNN a staggering 71 percent of Americans believe that the latest charges against Donald Trump, including offenses like mishandling classified documents, are politically motivated. While many feel Trump’s latest indictment was politically charged, around fifty percent also agree that Trump had acted illegally in how he handled classified documents and that his actions were a risk to national security.

Sixty-one percent of those polled also say that they approve of the indictment, despite the potential political motivations behind it. The poll also indicated that Trump was still the favorite GOP candidate for the 2024 election, and that many respondents are more concerned with his effectiveness as president rather than his potentially illegal conduct.

While the poll from CNN isn’t entirely clear in terms of who was polled and what questions were asked, it shows the fallout of Trump’s ongoing classified documents scandal. Trump was the subject of a federal indictment in relation to his handling of around three hundred classified documents, which were seized by the FBI during a raid in 2022. The FBI raided the former president’s Mar-a-Lago home and found the classified documents in various rooms, which prompted both President Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence to disclose their own mishandling of classified documents in response. While Trump wasn’t the only top official to possess classified information after his time in office, he is still the only one who has been charged with a crime as a result.

While Trump still enjoys a lead in terms of popularity within the GOP candidates for next year’s election, his lead has been slipping following the federal indictment, according to the recent poll. Despite his waning popularity and looming criminal trial later this summer, Trump has remained defiant and confident that he can secure re-election against Joe Biden in the 2024 election. Trump has also confirmed that should he be found guilty of the offenses, he will not be dropping out of the election.
