(NationalUSNews.com) — After months of speculation surrounding former President Donald Trump’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election, Trump has announced that he plans on running alongside Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio).
Trump’s decision to select Vance as a running mate hardly surprised political experts, given Vance’s connection to a battleground state and his outspoken “America First” political platform. Vance recently spoke to Fox News about becoming Trump’s running mate and shared details about what the two hope to accomplish once elected, including renewed aid for Israel.
During his interview with Fox News, Vance called Israel one of the United States’s most important allies and promised to boost aid to Israel to help the nation in its ongoing war against Hamas. Vance said that President Joe Biden has repeatedly failed to help Israel end the war and promised that if elected, he and Trump would boost the number of weapons and money donations sent to Israel to help end the Israel-Hamas war. Vance also claimed that he and Trump would ease restrictions on Israel’s rules of engagement, allowing Israel’s military more options in its conflict with Hamas.
While Vance promised to help Israel through increased weapon shipments and more financial aid, the senator also said that he and Trump would focus on establishing peace in the Middle East through the Abraham Accords. The Abraham Accords were a series of agreements between Israel and other Middle Eastern nations to avoid conflict, but the peace agreement has started deteriorating since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023. Vance believes peace between Israel and its neighboring countries requires a renewed focus on the Abraham Accords, which the vice presidential hopeful believes Trump could accomplish during a second term as the chief executive.
During his interview, Vance celebrated the Abraham Accords, claiming that the agreement between Israel and its neighbors could result in long-lasting peace throughout the region. Vance said that Americans should feel excited about further developing the international agreement, as it would help the United States avoid deploying troops directly into Middle Eastern conflicts. During the interview’s closing moments, Vance claimed that Israel should hope that Trump wins the 2024 presidential election, describing Trump as one of the most pro-Israel presidents to hold office.
