Xavier Roberts, a 16-year-old gang member, was specifically noted for his involvement in five shootings over one week, an indication of the ongoing feud that escalated tensions in the area. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, “For months, these gang members turned East Harlem into their personal battleground. And now their cycle of violence and retaliation is over.”
