Radio Station Journalist Dismissed After White House Interview Questions Debacle

(NationalUSNews.com) — With the 2024 presidential election entering its closing months and mounting doubt about whether or not President Joe Biden could serve another term, the White House has scheduled various interviews and events to assure concerned Democratic voters.

The White House recently scheduled an interview on the Philadelphia radio station WURD, which resulted in a scandal after the station’s anchor told CNN that the White House provided questions beforehand. In response to the controversy, WURD has “parted ways” with Andrea Lawful-Sanders, the anchor who spoke to CNN about the pre-selected questions.

Following Lawful-Sanders’s dismissal, WURD released a statement providing context and explaining why the station fired her. According to the statement, Lawful-Sanders scheduled the interview with Biden without informing the radio station. WURD claims that allowing the White House to select questions beforehand violates the station’s journalistic ideals, and thus, the station had to terminate Lawful-Sanders. Lawful-Sanders spoke about her involvement in the incident and seemingly admitted to acting alone, confirming that she received eight questions from White House staff and approved each before her interview with Biden.

Although WURD claims that Lawful-Sanders acted independently of the station when scheduling the interview, online commenters aren’t convinced. One social media user posted about the scandal on X, formerly Twitter, claiming that WURD fired Lawful-Sanders for attempting to expose the pre-selected questions and WURD’s complacency to mainstream media outlets. Other social media users pointed out how Lawful-Sanders is black, arguing that the left isn’t concerned about protecting her right to work due to her decision to expose Biden and the White House.

The WURD scandal marks the latest controversy for President Biden’s re-election campaign, which has faced numerous calls for Biden to step down following his performance in the first presidential debate. Biden likely planned the pre-prepared questions for the WURD interview to respond to the renewed criticism but has since accused Lawful-Sanders of lying and denied involvement in the radio station incident. While Lawful-Sanders has since admitted to accepting the pre-determined questions from White House staff, other interview hosts haven’t spoken about the incident or confirmed if they also received pre-selected questions for Biden’s recent media appearances.
