(NationalUSNews.com) — With concerns about President Joe Biden’s mental and physical health mounting, various elected officials have spoken about the president and expressed their concern for his health.
One such lawmaker is Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), a controversial Republican official who maintains a personal friendship with the aging president. Graham recently appeared on CBS News to speak about Biden’s health and said he’s worried about Biden’s next few months as the chief executive. During his media appearance, Graham referred to the first presidential debate, which featured numerous Biden gaffes and renewed calls for the president to step down from his reelection campaign.
According to Senator Graham, Biden’s failed debate performance likely made other world leaders take notice of the United States, which Graham described as “compromised.” Graham also said that he believes Biden should take a mental competency exam due to the mounting evidence of Biden’s decline in cognitive capabilities. Graham described Biden’s leadership as potentially “dangerous” and called for a competency exam to help assure voters and prevent further controversy regarding Biden’s health.
During his appearance on CBS, Graham said that he believes every potential presidential candidate and anyone who could assume the presidency should undergo mental competency exams. Graham referred to his predecessor, Senator Strom Thurmond (R-South Carolina), as evidence of why lawmakers should take required mental competency exams. Thurmond famously served on the Senate for 48 years and remained a senator until he died in 2003 at the age of 100. According to Graham, Thurmond’s age presented numerous issues for the Senate, issues that a mental competency exam would’ve helped lawmakers avoid.
While Graham’s CBS interview is the latest instance of a public figure calling for Biden to step down or consider a mental competency test, Democratic donors have been considering a replacement candidate since Biden’s abysmal debate performance. Democratic Party donors recently established the Next Generation PAC and want to raise approximately $100 million to help a different candidate take Biden’s spot as the presumptive Democratic nominee. Despite Graham’s comments and donors’ attempts at replacing Biden, the aging president has repeatedly claimed he will not step down.
